For this week’s fan, we head north of the border to Canada. Lately, we’ve been getting more and more emails from our Canadian contingent and this guy proves why.
Name: Thomas Termeer
From: London, Ontario, Canada
Age: 33
Occupation: Zone Operator (factory line worker) for Accuride Canada Inc, Making Heavy Duty wheels.
How long have you been following racing: I have been watching racing since I was 12, but hard core NASCAR nut since 1998.
How did it get started: Its in my blood, I eat, sleep, dream, and sweat horsepower. I was 12, and my brother taught me how to rebuild an alternator. Since then, I was obsessed with cars and its gotten worse, according to my beautiful wife.
Who was your favourite driver and why: Dale Earnhardt and then Dale Jr, not because he is Dales Sr’s son, but because of his dedication to the sport, his love for racing and it’s in his blood. It’s not something someone can give you; you are born with it.
What is your favourite driver’s racing moment: When Dale Jr. won the Daytona 500
How many races do you attend a year: None, I have only been to one race and that was when Dale Jr placed second in Atlanta.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: Bristol last year when Dale Jr. won.
What is your favourite track for racing: I love Atlanta for non-restrictor plate because Dale Jr dominates and the speed of the track. I love Bristol because it’s a fan favourite track, but driver’s worst track for cautions.
If you driver came to your town, where would you take him and what would you do: I’d like to show him the town and whoop it up, but low key. I’d like Dale Jr to feel comfortable not mobbed like when he goes to Vinnie’s in Mooresville.
If you worked for DEI, What would you like to do: Driver first and foremost, but tire change, engine builder or even sales rep for DEI or even helping for charity here in Canada. Anything to do with DEI; I would have died and gone to heaven.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: I would change that if a driver is caught swearing, only the driver is penalized not the team. A team doesn’t represent a driver’s swearing in jubilation. A fine is not relevant as money is no object for drivers; points or laps are. If a driver swears on TV, have him start 43rd in the next race regardless of where he qualifies.
