Name: Scott Hord
From: Altoona, PA
Age: (optional) 36
Occupation: Facilities Info. Coord. - Penn State University
How long have you been following racing: since about 1981
How did you get started: from my father, Ron Hord
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Richard Petty, he was the most well known when I was little and I saw the Daytona in 1979 where he won the race after Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison got together on the backstretch.
Who is your favorite now, and why: Dale Earnhardt Jr. My father and I became big Dale Earnhardt Sr. during the mid-1980’s and I started to follow Junior when he opened up his first full Busch Season in 1998. I remembered at Daytona he tore the rear end out of it when they dropped the jack. They got the car back out on the track later and he was running with the leaders when he got tagged from behind by Dick Trickle and went for a ride.
What is your favorite driver’s best racing moment: August 2004 Bristol race. He dominated the field that night and the crowd went wild. I drove from my town to Bristol and back in a 36 hour span and it was well worth the drive!
How many races do you attend a year: 3
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: Dad and I saw Dale Earnhardt Sr. win the 1998 Daytona 500 in person. It was one of the coldest Speedweeks I have ever been too, but it was worth it!
What is your favorite track for racing: Bristol. Nothing beats the Saturday nite bull ring with the fans in the Roman Coliseum watching you
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: I know he follows college football, and I’ve read he likes Michigan & Penn State football, so I would take him to a home game for Penn State vs, Michigan, which happens to be October 14 this year.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I would like to be the tire guy, either working on the pit crew or balancing and checking the tires.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: I would disallow the “Lucky Dog” rule and have the cars race back to the flag.
