For our latest edition of Fan of the Week, we didn’t have to go too far from our corporate headquarters here in Mooresville, NC. Seems, like many of us, she had racing in her blood from a generation before. When that happens, most folks in the next generation don’t stand a chance getting away from racing.
Name: Rhonda Landon
From: Fuquay Varina, NC
Age: 27
Occupation: Process Tech at Unitive
How long have you been following racing: Since I was old enough to remember
How did you get started: My father worked for AJ Foyt before I was born and told me all the stories
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Dale Earnhardt No. 3; because he drove with his heart and never gave up
Who is your favorite now, and why: Dale Earnhardt Jr., because he drives like his father did, with his heart. No matter how bad it gets he keeps a smile and keeps on truckin'.
What is your favorite driver’s racing moment: His 2005 Chicagoland win, I fell off the couch
How many races do you attend a year: We went to two this past year, but looking to definitely more this year. We just got back from serving overseas in the military
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: Darlington under the lights 2005. I was there in person, my first live race, Dale Jr. started near last and fought back to finish
8th. Way to go Dale Jr. !
What is your favorite track for racing: That is tough, they each have their own good points. If I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be any super speedway because Dale Jr. runs so well on them.
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: I would start by taking him to the Country Kitchen for some awesome breakfast and then we would do some racing at the local go-kart. We would finish off the night at my house for some home cooking and hanging out!
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I think I would enjoy being a PR representative. I have an amazing knack for dealing with people.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: I think I would do away with the Chase for the Cup. I think it is hindering too many drivers that, under the old points system, would be doing so much better. I would also want to bring back some of the old- time racing ways, Rubbin' is Racin'!
