For our Fan of the Week, we headed just north of here to West Virginia. Sometimes you go through life and people rub you the wrong way. But, this week’s fan would definitely not do something like that to anyone.
Name: Jennifer Chafin
From: Danville, WV
Age: 29
Occupation: Massage Therapist and One Hour Photo Specialist for a big Supercenter.
How long have you been following racing: On and off since about 1993, but almost religiously since the first time I saw Dale Jr.
How did you get started: My parents watched it and I watched some races with them.
But then I saw Dale Jr. in a Busch race in 1998 and have been a junkie ever since.
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: It’s really weird, but I liked both Dale Sr. and Jeff Gordon. Dale because he was awesome, there was no one like him. I liked Jeff because of his eyes and the rainbow car.
Who is your favorite now, and why: Dale Jr. because he is just as great of a driver as his Daddy, but is his own person with his style and attitude both on the track and off.
What is your favorite driver’s best racing moment: Winning the Daytona 500 and the Pepsi 400 in July after Dale died.
How many races do you attend a year: I try to make 1 or 2 races a year, but am in Mooresville at DEI many more time. Let’s see, since August of ’03, I have been to DEI at least eight times.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: In person, the October ’04 Dega race that Jr. won and was docked the stupid 25 points for saying a tiny four letter word. On TV, definitely the ’04 Daytona 500 when Dale Jr. won.
What is your favorite track for racing: Talladega is amazing!!!! I also like
Martinsville; I have been there four times.
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: I would first of all have to give him a therapeutic massage and then go out somewhere for dinner. I’d invite a few friends to go four-wheelin’ and then have a big bonfire while tossing back a few Buds.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I’d like to be a massage therapist for the company and work with Harold Hinson as a photographer.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: Take out the impound rule. They started it saying that it would keep the teams with their families longer, but they are still at the track the same amount of time each weekend.
