Just like we were taught in school to “Remember the Alamo,” we also have to post our newest Fan of the Week each Tuesday. Fortunately, we can combine both because this week’s lucky one comes from Texas.
Like most folks, he came into racing because a family member always watched and he just followed along. It might be early, but in the picture it looks like the younger Summers isn’t too impressed with the whole racing deal – yet. Another reason we chose Russell lies in his ‘if you ran NASCAR for a day’ answer at the end.
Name: Russell Summers
From: Hutto, TX
Occupation: Instructional Technology Coordinator
How long have you been following racing: I’ve been following racing for about 15 years now.
How did you get started: My dad always watched the race on Sunday afternoons, so I started watching and became hooked.
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Dale Sr. because of his driving style.
Who is your favorite now, and why: Dale Jr., he reminds me a lot of his dad and his dad was a great driver.
What is your favorite driver’s best racing moment: It has to be Dale’s Daytona win in 1998 and Dale Jr’s 2001 July victory at Daytona.
How many races do you attend a year: I get to one race a year.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: The Daytona 500 when Dale won in 1998
What is your favorite track for racing: Texas and Daytona
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: We’d go to a Round Rock Express baseball game, and maybe a go-kart track to race him
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: Wash and wax the cars
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: The inconsistency in the rules enforcement. I am tired of seeing one driver or team get away with a slap on the hand and another get the death penalty for the same infraction.
