We headed to a state well known for its great racing for Fan of the Week. A group of guys from there were so good they were even called the Alabama Gang. You just have to like someone who raced, liked Marty Robbins and the action at Talladega.
Take a good look at her picture, too. What’s different about it than pictures taken this year, or the one before?
Name: Iretta Gaskill
From: Decatur, Alabama
Age: 52
Occupation: Corporate Purchasing Manager for Manufacturing company
How long have you been following racing: Since I was 15.
How did you get started: I pulled off my roller skates and went to the race track. I raced on Friday and Saturday night plus Sunday afternoon. I also ate bologna all week to afford to buy gas, etc to race.
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Nashville Fairgrounds
Speedway driver Marty Robbins because he drove the Saturday night race then made the last show at the Grand Ole Opry - How neat!
What is your favorite driver best racing moment: That’s a tough one! Dale, Sr and Dale, Jr both winning the Daytona 500 is great, but Dale, Jr's victory in July 2001 at Daytona has to be up there with them.
How many races do you attend a year: At least four a year; two at Talladega and two at Texas.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: Dale, Sr's last Talladega win - I know I didn't breathe for at least the last nine laps!!!!!!!!
What is your favorite track for racing: Talladega; by all means!!!!!
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would you take him and what would you do: I'd take him to our local hang-out on the river, The
Hard Dock, for some good music and food just to chill out and have a good time.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: Purchasing and inventory management; plus be cross functional with new promotional ideas.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete:
Put the same stipulations on all the drivers that should be on everyone, anyhow. Some get away with so called "dirty driving" while others get penalized
