We didn’t travel far for our Fan of the Week this time. We just went south on I-77 here in North Carolina. And, we ended up in Charlotte.
Seems the only concern she has about NASCAR is where the final race of the season is held. Have to say, never heard that one before.
Name: Celita Turner
From: Formally of Lucedale, MS, now in resides Charlotte, NC
Occupation: Student
How long have you been following racing: I’ve been into it for about five years now.
How did you get started: I was watching the 2001 Daytona 500 and I was hooked after that, even though the ending was a sad one. The family atmosphere of the sport drew me in.
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Dale Earnhardt Jr. because first race I watched was the ’01 Daytona 500 and he impressed me.
Who is your favorite now, and why: Still Dale Jr. – same reason – he’s a great driver
What is your favorite driver’s best racing moment: Winning the Daytona 500 in 2004 and the 2001 Pepsi 400.
How many races do you attend a year: I try to attend between two and four races each season.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: The 2006 spring Martinsville race when Dale Jr. drove his junkyard car to a fourth-place finish. And of course, the ’04 Daytona 500!
What is your favorite track for racing: I really enjoy plate races and short track races. Talladega for the big tracks and Bristol for the short.
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: My hometown. I’d take him to our best restaurant and that’s really all that is there! I might go to the neighboring town to the dirt track.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I’d really like to handle Public Relations.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: Tough one; there’s really not a lot that I would change. I think NASCAR does an excellent job running the sport. I might change the schedule a little by ending the season somewhere more exciting than Homestead.
