Put on your favorite Dale Earnhardt, Jr. attire when you come to the race track, hang around the pit area and chances are pretty good you’ll be chosen as Fan of the Week.
That’s what happened to this lucky fan at Darlington Raceway. Not only was he pleased, his first response when we asked him was, “Man, I always wondered how you got picked for that when I saw it on the website. This is cool.”
Name: Glen Collier
From: Originally Ft. Worth, Texas, but now I live in Raleigh, NC
Age: 29
Occupation: Supervisor at UPS
How long have you been following racing: I started watching when I was about 10-years old and have been into ever since.
What got you interested: When I moved to North Carolina, my stepfather was really into it and I just kind of followed along.
Who was the first driver you followed: It was Dale Earnhardt – he was The Man, for sure. He was a go-getter and didn’t let anyone push him around and he usually dealt it out. He brought a lot of excitement to racing.
Favorite Dale Earnhardt moment: The famous Pass in the Grass at The Winston in Charlotte – that was the best.
Now you’re a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan, what do you like about him: Same things I like about his dad. He can be cocky, but he backs it up on the race track. I just wish he’d relax more and come out and visit with his fans a little bit. I know he has a huge fan base, but he can come out and say hello. We’re not going to be a pain, we just want to say hello.
How many races do you attend a year: I have season tickets to Bristol, we came to Darlington in the spring and we used to go to Rockingham every year. We go to Charlotte, too.
When you don’t attend, how do you watch the races: I’ll watch races at the house and invite a bunch of people over.
If you could work at DEI, what would you like to do: I’d like to be Dale Jr’s Public Relations person. (Laughs)
You said you read this website; what’s your favorite part: I really like everything, but the webcams are my favorite part. I like to watch them work on the cars in the various shops. I like the Fan of the Week stuff, too. That’s what makes this so cool to now be the Fan of the Week. Thanks.
