When you’re at a race track, especially Daytona, finding a fan of the week is fairly easy. This week, we found one who went to a race at Talladega in the early 70s and was hooked ever since.
Name: Lorine Heaton
From: Pensacola, Fla.
Occupation: I work with my husband at our business, Heaton Bros. Construction. We’ve been in business for 39 years.
Is he tough to work with: No (Laughs), we’ve been married for 42 years.
How did you get interested in racing: My husband and I were on vacation one time in 1973 and had tickets to Talladega. We went that one time and have been hooked ever since then.
Who was your first favorite driver: Bill Elliott, I just liked his personality and how he raced.
When did you become a Dale Jr. fan: It was right after the 2001 Daytona 500 and I saw an interview they had with Dale Jr. There was just something about him and how handled himself that I started liking him.
Name your favorite Dale Jr. moment: It was that interview because he showed a side you rarely see in drivers – he was sensitive.
If you could work at Dale Earnhardt, Inc., what would you like to do: I’d be Dale Jr’s bodyguard so nobody could hurt him.
Have you ever seen our website: No, I work on one all the time but don’t play on there.
Will you check it out now: Oh, for sure.
