This week’s fan may be very recognizable to many of you – especially if you’re into motorcycles. He was in the NAPA shop on Wednesday and thought it was cool we wanted him to be our Fan of the Week.
We thought it was, too.
Name: Mikey Teutul
Age: 26
From: Montgomery, NY
Occupation: Assistant General Manager of Orange County Choppers
How long have you been following racing: I’ve been following it since I was a kid; I love NASCAR.
Who were some of our favorite drivers: Dale Earnhardt was definitely one, and so was Darrell Waltrip when he finally won the Daytona 500.
How many races have you attended in person: We’ve been to about four of them.
Which was your favorite track: I really enjoyed Talladega because it’s a big track and the racing there is pretty good.
Did you get to visit the infield: Oh yeah, (Laughs) we got to the infield there and it was wild. The people are crazy. We went at night and I thought all rich people wearing nice clothes, drinking tea and being reserved went to the infield.
We were cruising around there on a golf cart and they were practically ripping the hair out of our heads. And, I have a lot of hair to pull out, too.
What did you think of your tour of DEI: This place is amazing; I heard it had a lot to see and filled with some great things in the area of technological advances. And, from what I can see it’s true.
Tell us the coolest thing you saw here at DEI: Besides Michael Waltrip, I’d have to say the raw chassis for the race car. That’s stuff you don’t get to see everyday. All you see is the cars on the track, the wrecks and people throwing helmets at one another. (Laughs) You just don’t get to see the inner workings of a race shop like we did today.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I’d probably want to race, want to drive the cars.
Best racing highlight you ever saw: Watching Dale Jr. swear last year in Talladega comes to mind right away. I know that’s kind of off the cuff, but I’d really have to say some of the spectacular wrecks where nobody got hurt, of course. It just amazes me that drivers can walk away from some of those wrecks. It says a lot about the safety of the race cars.
