We happened upon this week’s fan in our Retail Store sporting a Dale Earnhardt T-shirt. That’s always a good way to get spotted here, and an even better way to become Fan of the Week.
Name: Penny Dufour
From: Burlington, Wisconsin – but now moving to Mooresville
Occupation: Retired from Heavy Duty Electric
Is this your first visit to DEI: Yes, and I love it – I’m still in awe of how nice, clean and big this place is when you come here. It’s really something.
How long have you been following racing: I started watching it in 1975 because my husband was really into the sport.
Who was the first driver you started to follow: When Dale Earnhardt started, he was my driver from then on.
What drew you to him: I just thought he was really cool.
Favorite Dale moment: There are so many, but I’ll have to say when he won the Daytona 500 in 1998.
Best race you ever saw: When Dale got into Terry Labonte to win Bristol. That one really sticks out in my mind.
Do you now follow Dale Jr: Yes, and I do because I like him for him and not because he’s Dale’s son. I like his style.
Favorite Dale Jr. moment: When he won Texas in 2000.
If you could work at DEI, what would you like to do: I’d like to interview all the drivers after each race. (Laughs)
You get to run NASCAR for a day, what would you change: I’d like to see them race back to the caution again.
