A beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon here at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. seems to bring out the fans. And, this time was no different when we found or Fan of the Week up from Florida.
Name: Fred Finizio
From: West Palm Beach, Fla.
Age: 43
Occupation: Superintendent for Davis Bros. Construction
What brings you to DEI today: I was at Daytona in 2001 and I’ve never been here before. My daughter had a soccer tournament in this area that was cancelled so we decided to check out some race shops. This one was first on our list.
What do you think of the place: It’s amazing; I just wish I could get back behind the glass to look at the cars. My wife gave me a Richard Petty Driving Experience as a gift, so I kind of know what the cars look like. But, I’d really like to see the ones you guys built.
How long you been following racing: I’ve been following it for 10 years now.
What drew your interest: I went to Talladega in 1997 and saw the fastest race there in history. There were no cautions during the race. We drove 1400 miles to watch a 2.5 hour race. (Laughs)
By your shirt I can see you’re a Dale Earnhardt fan. What drew you to him: I respected Dale because he was good at what he did. He was generous to people and he did it with little fan fare. We didn’t learn a lot about that until after Feb. 2001 and it made me respect him even more. He was one-of-a-kind, for sure.
Favorite Dale moment: When he won the Daytona 500 in 1998. That was amazing how the crews came out to congratulate him on his big victory.
You’re a Dale Jr. fan now, why: He’s a rebel and he marches to the beat of his own drummer. That’s a good thing, too. He and his dad are a class act.
If you could work here, what would you like to do: I build things, I’m a quick study and I would just love to build things for DEI – anything.
Let’s say you get to run NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: I would go return to where they race back to the caution. I know they say some guys can get hurt, but I say ‘No Guts, No Glory” on that deal.
If you could race at any track, which one would it be: That’s a tough one, but I’d have to go with Darlington. It’s rich in history and it tears guys up because it’s so tough to get around.
