It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for a new Fan of the Week. For this edition, we found a guy who knew, and knows, his “part” pretty well. He’s a fan of more then two decades, so you know he’s seen his share of laps around the tracks.
Name: Jim Bansfield
From: Plainville MA
Occupation: Part’s clerk at Keigan Chevrolet
How long have you been following racing: About 27 years
How did you get started: By watching what I could on TV
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Dale Earnhardt because he was the best there will ever be.
Who is your favorite now, and why: I pull for almost anyone driving a Chevy, even though no one will ever be as good as Big E.
What is your favorite driver’s racing moment: When Dale won the 1998 Daytona 500, that was something special.
How many races do you attend a year: I go to both races at New Hampshire every year.
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: That’s an easy one, the 1998 Daytona 500
What is your favorite track for racing: Bristol
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: Well, since I am already doing it at the dealership, I would like to work in the parts department at DEI.
If you ran NASCAR for a day, what rule would you change, add or delete: I would definitely get rid of the Free Pass Rule where someone gets back on the lead lap.
