For this week’s fan, we went to the shores of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. This guy might be kind of new to the scene, but he seems to have caught on quickly.
Name: Thomas Wight
From: Clearwater, FL
Age: (optional) 20
Occupation: Shipping Clerk at Interlink Communication Systems
How long have you been following racing: I’ve been actively watching it for two years, but have watched it all my life here and there with my dad.
How did you get started: When I was younger, my dad watched NASCAR for years and when I got old enough to understand it, I watched it with him. It's really helped me grow closer to him.
Who was your first favorite driver, and why: Dale Jr, my dad loved Dale
Sr, and so did my uncle, I watched Dale Sr a lot, but once Dale Jr hit the scene I was following him more
Who is your favorite now, and why: Still Dale Jr, because he is a dominator and true to the sport.
What is your driver’s most memorable racing moment: Dale Jr's win at the
Daytona 500
How many races do you attend a year: Only one, this year's Pepsi 400; but I hope to see more!
Best race you ever saw on TV or in person: 2004 Daytona 500
What is your favorite track for racing: Daytona.
If your favorite driver came to your town, where would take him and what would you do: I'd take Junior out on the town and show him the best time ever - he'd want to move to Clearwater! We'd go to the original Hooters off of Gulf-To-Bay or we could go to USA International Speedway.
If you worked at DEI, what would you like to do: I'd like to allow all the visitors see the day to day operations in person and maybe have them work on a model car, test race that car in a simulation, and see how well they do. The person who wins the most at the end of the day takes home a care package full of DEI memorabilia.
If you ran NASCAR for a day; what rule would you change, add or delete:
Dale Jr. wins every race.
